St. Brendan Symbol

St. Brendan the Navigator, sailed from the West of Ireland in a large curragh (traditional hide-covered boat) in the 6th century with a group of monks, and was believed to have discovered America (identified in early texts as the ‘Land of Promise’) some 900 years before Columbus.
